Understanding and enabling hazardous goods handling with Carrier Connect
You can handle your hazardous goods shipments with a variety of carriers in Carrier Connect.
Check the System Description “Functional scope of the carriers” – under “Special characteristics” for the carrier in question – whether and to what extent hazardous goods shipments can be processed.
All master data relating to hazardous goods – UN numbers, hazardous goods classes, modes of transport, packaging groups, classification codes – is managed in your host system. You transmit this data to Carrier Connect to fill in the shipping order fields that the carrier needs to ship hazardous goods. Finally, where needed, the hazardous goods data is printed onto the carrier-specific shipping documents and transmitted in the EDI message.
Carrier Connect does not validate or check the accuracy of your hazardous goods data. The responsibility for the accuracy of your hazardous goods data in your shipping orders lies with you or your hazardous goods declarant.
Carrier-neutral hazardous goods documents such as the “IMO Dangerous Goods Declaration” or “Shippers Declaration for Dangerous Goods” are generated and printed through your shipping or other host system.
