Creating, editing, and completing provisional import declarations

You can manually create and edit provisional import declarations and send them to the customs authorities. This can be necessary if preferential documents are missing, for example. Customs will assign an expiry date to provisional import declarations. Before this expiry date, you can convert the provisional import declaration to a definitive import declaration and add any missing data.

If you want, you can configure notifications to be informed about expiring provisional applications. After the expiry date, customs will automatically convert a provisional import declaration to a definitive import declaration.

Proceed as follows to edit and send provisional import declarations:

  1. Go to Customs – Import declarations (CH).
  2. Open an existing import declaration. To create a new import declaration, click New.
  3. You can filter the overview to show only provisional import declarations (declaration type “2 – Provisorisch”) by clicking on the Show more link, going to the Declaration type drop-down list, and selecting 2 – Provisorisch.

  4. In the Declaration type field, select the value “2 – Provisorisch” and enter a reason.
  5. The Assistant alerts you once you have entered all the required data. Click the alert to send the provisional import declaration.
  6. The status of the import declaration changes to Sent.
  7. After release by customs, the status of the provisional import declaration changes to Released. The Notes group displays the expiry date of the provisional import declaration.

Proceed as follows to edit and send definitive import declarations:

  1. Go to Customs – Import declarations (CH).
  2. Open a provisional import declaration with the status of Released.
  3. You can filter the overview for provisional import declarations with a specific expiry period. Click on the Show more link and select the period of your choice in the Expiry prov. decl. field.

  4. In the Assistant pane, go to the Actions group and click on Perform correction.
  5. Proceed as for a correction: See Correcting import declarations.

Notes

If customs converts the import declaration after the expiry date, you will receive the release of the import declaration. Open the import declaration. In the Notes group, you will find information about the correction. For further information about the correction and the conversion of the provisional declaration, refer to the Customs information sheet, Notes and Timestamps field groups.

You can receive email notifications about both the approaching expiry of the provisional import declarations as well as the conversion of a provisional to a definitive import declaration.
