Printer driver troubleshooting

Some transport service providers that return finished labels via web service may transfer parameters in their label stream that change your print settings.

Possible solution: Restart the printer and set the printer correctly again if necessary

  • Restart the printer.
  • Set the printer correctly again in accordance with the manufacturer's documentation, if necessary. Save the settings.

How to avoid the problem in future

  • If possible with this transport service provider, use a different type of printer (PDF).
  • Alternatively, always send the correct parameters with the native printer settings.
  • Use the “Ignore” option for certain print commands (e.g. labelhome, print mode, speed, temperature) that some printer models offer.

You can recognize the standby mode in the display or by a green illuminated LED. Make sure that the printer is in “Online” mode. If necessary, refer to your user manual for the printer model.

Possible solution: Check whether print jobs are generally arriving

  • Check whether print jobs are generally arriving. The best way to do this is to stop the relevant queue and then check whether jobs are arriving.
  • If the jobs arrive and are sent to the printer, check the possible solutions under “Some print jobs disappear or are not printed”.

Possible solution: Check the connection settings

If you receive an error message in the queue, check if connection settings are correct in the printer properties under Connections.

Possible solution: Disable bidirectional support

Disable the Bidirectional support setting and test again.

Further possible solutions

Security settings could trigger various restrictions in communication with the printers. Contact your internal IT department if you need support with this.

Possible solution: Clean the printer

Carry out the recommended cleaning steps from your printer manufacturer's user manual.

Possible solution: Adjust the speed and/or temperature

At slower speeds or higher heat, the printout becomes darker. We recommend first reducing the speed to minimize wear on your print head.

You can change the speed and temperature via your driver. If necessary, switch to “Use Driver Settings” and configure the values accordingly.

Transfer and check the change by printing a test page.

As a rule, the printouts are generated for a specific printer resolution.

  • If you send a 203dpi label stream to a 300dpi printer, the label will be printed at 2/3 size.
  • If you send a 300dpi label stream to a 203dpi printer, the label will be cut off at 2/3 (printed over the margin).
  • If you receive a PDF back from our AEB product, it can also be enlarged/reduced.

Possible solution: Check whether you have set the label size correctly

Check whether the correct label size is set in your Windows driver.

Possible solution: Check whether the correct driver has been installed

Check whether you have installed the correct driver (203 or 300 dpi driver).

Possible solution: Check whether you are using the correct printer type

Select the correct printer type in the driver and in the AEB product.

Restart the printer and print a Windows test page. If this does not work, check the installation.

If only shipping labels from certain transport service providers are not printed, check

  • whether the output settings in the AEB product are correctly stored in the document type,
  • whether the workstation is correctly defined,
  • whether printing also works without native printer settings. If not, create the printer settings with the Nicelabel printer drivers approved by AEB.
