How hazardous goods items and hazardous goods packages are allocated in Carrier Connect
Let’s look at an example illustrating how the calculation algorithm of Carrier Connect works when your shipping order contains more than one hazardous goods package.
Starting point
- Four packages
- One item with 12 sub-items, allocated to the packages as follows:
- Package 1: 1 sub-item
- Package 2: 3 sub-items
- Package 3: 4 sub-items
- Package 4: 4 sub-items
- The item contains hazardous goods, allocated to 7 hazardous goods packages (Shipping order – Packages and items – Items – open item – Hazardous goods sheet – open hazardous goods item – Hazardous goods sheet – Packaging – No. of pkgs)
- Net amount of hazardous goods: 5.000 kg
Calculation of the share of hazardous goods
12 sub-items are allocated to 7 hazardous goods packages: Each hazardous goods package contains 7/12 of the total number of sub-items
EDI transmission
- Package 1 contains 1 sub-item = (7:12) x ((5 kg : 7) x 1) = 0.416 kg
- Package 2 contains 3 sub-items = (7:12) x ((5 kg : 7) x 3) = 1.250 kg
- Package 3 contains 4 sub-items = (7:12) x ((5 kg : 7) x 4) = 1.667 kg
- Package 4 contains 4 sub-items = (7:12) x ((5 kg : 7) x 4) = 1.667 kg
If there are any rounding inaccuracies, the last step is to determine the remaining quantity that resulted from the rounding. This remaining quantity is then added to the package with the largest quantity. If there is more than one package containing the same largest quantity, the remaining quantity is allocated to the first of these packages.
